To practice chess notation, one has to become

 familiar with the Cartesian Coordinate system

 that chess uses.

Your read first on the horizontal axis (rank) >>>>

Then move up the vertical axis (file)

Battle chess

You need 2 chess boards.

Just like “Battleship” place your  White King,

Queen Rook, Bishop and Knight  

anywhere on the board.

Hide boards from each other

Your opponent calls out the chess space.

Announce “hit or miss.

 Remove hit piece.

Continue to play.

First one to remove all the pieces loses.
